Choye Choy: A story of Six upon Six successes

Riding two goals from Lalmpuiya, Mohun Bagan came back strongly to defeat arch rivals East Bengal 2-1 in the 1st encounter between the two in the 2008 Calcutta Premier League Championship. With this win, the defending champion defeated their arch rivals six times in a row in Kolkata. To add more salt to the East Bengal Fans’ wows, it can be reminded that this is their seventh straight defeat against the sole national club of India in Calcutta Premier League.

Unnerved by this new record, East Bengal fans have cited similar record created by them during 73 – 75 seasons. However, there is one gap in their Choye Choye Claim. They had won a walk over against Mohun Bahan in the 73 Shield. After trailing 1-0, in the first day, the game was abandoned following a ruckus created by their supporters. Naturally Mohun Bagan did not wanted to play the replay match and East Bengal was announced the winner. Now, if this walk over is considered as a proper victory, then the EB supporters have reason to feel proud but deep inside do they really feel proud?
